Why You Should Blog

The web is full of all types of tools, programs and trends that are available to sites, but it is hard to know which ones you should use. After all, who has the time? Well, let’s discuss why you should blog.

Blogging is simply the act of keeping a journal of sorts on your site. It can be as simple as adding a page to your site every so often or going all out with a diary each and every day. There are independent programs like WordPress you can integrate with your site or you can just do it as a daily page add on.

Most people think blogging is all about controversy. You must say something provocative to get people to read it! Well, this is definitely one form of blogging, but there are many others that are just important.

Let’s assume you have a service site. Blogging should be relatively simple for you. You just need to write about developments in the field and how they impact your clients. You also can discuss the various sides in a situation and potential future action such as research or government legislation that might impact the field.

How about a site selling products? Most sites of this sort think a blog is impossible. What would you write about? Well, the answer is simple. The products! You can discuss new products you have in, their advantages and so on. You can also use the blog to answer questions you might receive from customers. If one has a question, you can be sure others have thought the same thing.

From a search engine optimization point of view, blogging is extremely helpful with rankings. The search engines used to just look for relevant content. Now they are looking for relevant, exclusive, new content. A blog provides all of that. Even if you aren’t trying to get your site ranked, blogging can actually produce rankings.

There is little doubt that blogging takes time and effort. Once you get into the rhythm of doing it, the process will go quickly. If all else fails, you can assign it to someone in your company!
